Flooded Basement Waterproofing, Cheshire

Trace redesigned and installed a complete cavity drainage system following a basement flood and insurance claim at a residential property in Cheshire.

  • Removing elements of the failed waterproofing system
  • Addressing weaknesses within the original design
  • Correcting connections between the internal pumps and external drainage
  • Installing a complete new cavity drainage membrane system

When the basement of this residential property in Cheshire flooded, the damage became the subject of an insurance claim.

The flooding was connected to issues above ground, but our investigation also identified shortcomings in the original basement waterproofing design. Trace Basement Systems was appointed to design and install a complete new cavity drainage system, addressing both the immediate water ingress and the weaknesses that had left the basement vulnerable.

Investigating the cause of the flooding

A flooded basement is rarely solved by simply repairing the area where water first appeared.

At this Cheshire property, we reviewed how water was being managed throughout the site. Particular attention was given to the connections between the basement’s internal pumping system and the external land drainage.

These connections compromised the continuity of the structure and the waterproof tanking applied to it, creating vulnerable points through which water could enter the basement.

Correcting the original design

Rather than reinstating the previous system, we developed a new waterproofing design to provide more reliable long-term protection.

Restoring confidence in the basement

Completing the work as part of an insurance claim required a clear understanding of why the original system had failed and what was needed to prevent the same problem from happening again.

By treating the basement, pumping system and external drainage as one connected waterproofing design, Trace resolved the existing problems and provided a more robust system for the future.

The basement could then be reinstated with greater confidence that the structure and finished living space were properly protected.

Has your basement flooded?

Trace Basement Systems investigates failed and underperforming basement waterproofing systems throughout Cheshire and across the UK.

We can identify the cause of water ingress, review the original waterproofing design and develop a remedial system suitable for insurance claims, property renovations and occupied homes.
