Trace joiners can complete traditional repairs including scarf joints, splicing, mortise & tenon, lap & mortise joints and modern repairs – timber resin splice, strength upgrade, resin & bar, joint reinforcement, shutter and fill, resin dowel, metal plate repairs (honest traditional or modern in appearance). We can also deal with ornate moulded timber repair and replacement.
The majority of our structural timber work is in listed buildings, and working with local heritage Architects, Consultants and Conservation Officers, we can completely restore severely decayed timber frame structures and constituent parts such as wattle and daub. In our history we’ve worked on 560+ listed buildings, including one of our award wins for listed structural timber repair.

A ‘repair and maintenance’ approach involves the drying down of structures (not just timber), such that fungal decay ceases. This is ideal in principle, however where client timescales do not allow for drying down, judicious use of chemical treatments can serve to protect and achieve the required outcome. This is our approach.
Trace joiners can complete any form of traditional repairs or replacement, to more modern techniques using timber-resin splice (TRS) repairs.
These replace a purpose made timber component, secured with structural epoxy pouring grout. The new member is laminated from kiln dried, maximum section structural timber fitted with high tensile, zinc plated steel bars.
The new part can be made in matching timber and the final repair is stronger than the parent timber.
Examples of our previous Structural Timber repair works are:
We are the leading waterproofing experts in the North West, having advised and worked on various land-mark properties locally including the Museum of Science and Industry, London Road Fire Station and The White Lion Stockport.
One of our PCA Project of the Year award wins involved restoration of a listed timber framed farmhouse, replacing decayed structural timbers asking a combination of traditional and modern (TRS) repair methods, and also reinstating wattle & daub wall panels, integrating original materials into this where feasible.
We advise private and commercial clients on issues of timber decay, following a process influenced by the size and scale of structural timber. This may include: Visual inspection, exposure and testing, preparation of detailed drawings & schedules, obtaining structural calcs, visual strength grading (in-house) and we specify exact and appropriate repairs.
